Experiencing Epic Universe for the First Time: What Surprised Me Most

I have been counting down to Epic Universe at Universal Orlando for what feels like forever, but nothing could have prepared me for how it actually felt to step inside. Between my visits in April, May, and again in August, I experienced the park in a few different ways. First, as a travel advisor seeing it through a professional lens, and later as a mom exploring with my family. Each visit left me more amazed than the last.

The Magic of the Theming

The first thing that truly surprised me was just how immersive Epic Universe feels. Universal has always done a great job with theming, but this park takes it to a whole new level. The moment you walk into the Isle of Berk, you feel like you are living inside How to Train Your Dragon. From the towering cliffs and Viking details to the sounds of dragons soaring overhead, it looks and feels like the movie has come to life around you. It was my personal favorite area, breathtaking and filled with charm at every turn.

Seeing It Through New Eyes

When I brought my daughter and her friend, it was so much fun to see Epic Universe through their eyes. Both in their mid-twenties, they had not been to Universal Hollywood, so Super Nintendo World was completely new to them. They were instantly pulled in, scanning for coins, trying out the Power Up Bands, and laughing their way through every challenge. Watching them race to find hidden interactions and celebrate each win made me smile. They said more than once that it felt like stepping straight into the game, only with better food and way more photo spots. Seeing them completely immersed reminded me why these parks bring out the kid in all of us.

Returning With My Family

When I returned in August, it was my husband and son’s first time seeing the park. Experiencing it with them was incredible in a different way. My husband was impressed by the scale and detail of each world, while my son could not stop talking about the rides and how real everything felt. Using Universal Express Pass made a huge difference. Now that all the rides are included, it helps you experience so much more without feeling rushed. I loved how it gave us more time to slow down and take in the incredible details that make each land feel unique.

What I Learned

Across all my visits, the biggest surprise was how emotional it felt to finally walk through a place I had imagined for so long. Epic Universe is more than just a new park. It is a glimpse at how storytelling, technology, and creativity can come together to create something unforgettable. If you are planning a visit, take your time in each world.
